About the book
In a night sky full of stars, one shines brighter than the rest. Then Luna’s light softens, and the stars around her do not know what to make of it. Sanja Juric wrote it for the age where children first notice they are different from the people next to them, and it works its way toward the idea that everyone has their own place and their own way of shining. A 29 page square paperback for readers of three to eight.
The illustration
A book set entirely at night is a book with no daylight to fall back on, so the whole thing is built on how light behaves. Luna is the warmest point in every composition, and the surrounding stars are cooled down so her glow does the work of drawing the eye. When her light softens, the illustration lets the contrast drop rather than changing her colour, which keeps the visual language honest to what the story is saying. The square format keeps the sky feeling open on every spread.
