About the book
When Jim and Tom find out their garden seat flies, they take it straight up into space and straight into trouble. High above Earth they meet Captain Bella and discover a growing problem among the stars. The book carries real facts about space junk inside the story, so a child comes away having learned something without being taught at. It opens the Seat, Seat, Fly Up High series.
The illustration
Space is the easiest setting in children’s publishing to make cold and the hardest to make inviting. The artwork keeps the deep black of space but warms every surface the boys touch, so the seat, their clothes and Captain Bella carry the heat in each spread. Scale does the storytelling: the boys stay small against the debris field, which is what makes the problem feel worth solving.
