About the book
Ester Levi’s story takes Miri out to her grandma’s farm for an afternoon of introductions. It is built for the age where naming animals is still the whole point of a book, so each spread gives one creature enough room to be looked at properly. Twenty four pages, sized at 8 by 10 inches, for readers of three to eight.
The illustration
Farm books live or die on whether the animals are recognisable and likeable at the same time, so each one is drawn close to its real proportions and then warmed up rather than cartooned flat. The colour stays in daylight greens and hay yellows so nothing competes with the animals themselves. Miri is small in most compositions on purpose, which keeps the field feeling large.
